How often are we faced with making decisions?
Some choices are unbearably difficult. Others may seem small or inconsequential. Yet, whether significant or seemingly insignificant, our choices shape the path we take.
The Bible often portrays life as a choice between two paths: the path that leads to life and righteousness and the path that leads toward destruction and death. Every day—and throughout the day—we are making choices. What will we think? What will we say? How will we respond? What will we do?
But how often do we stop and pray about those choices?
Do we invite God into our decisions before we speak? Before we act? Before we allow our emotions to determine our response? Even the thoughts we entertain and the words we choose are part of the path we are creating.
Proverbs reminds us:“There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way to death.”
—Proverbs 14:12
What seems right to us is not always what is right according to God.
God is always present with us. He does not leave us to navigate life on our own. Scripture tells us to trust Him rather than relying solely on our own understanding. When we acknowledge Him, He promises to direct our paths (Prov. 3:5–6).
We may make our plans, but ultimately, God establishes our steps (Prov. 16:9).
He guides us when we are uncertain, reminding us, “This is the way; walk in it” (Isa. 30:21).
And when we cannot see clearly, His Word becomes a lamp for the journey:“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.”
—Psalm 119:105
Think about what that means. God gives us what we need for the journey. He is not distant or uninvolved. He is active and personal in our lives. He knows us, loves us, guides us, and desires what is good for us.
So, what does your path look like?
Our path is, in many ways, a reflection of our choices—and our choices reveal something about our character and what we value.
Imagine your path becoming brighter as you draw closer to Christ. The closer we walk with God and allow Him to guide, transform, and fill us, the more clearly we begin to see where we are going.
Proverbs describes this beautifully:“The path of the righteous is like the light of dawn, which shines brighter and brighter until full day. The way of the wicked is like deep darkness; they do not know over what they stumble.”
—Proverbs 4:18–19
God does not promise that our path will always be easy. There will be obstacles, disappointments, detours, and difficult decisions. But when we walk with Him, we do not have to walk in darkness.
There are moments when we must choose which direction we will take.
Will we follow our feelings or God’s truth?
Will we trust our own understanding or seek His wisdom?
Will we hold tightly to our plans or surrender them to Him?
Will we choose the world’s way or God’s way?
Ultimately, we choose our path.
Moses placed this choice before God’s people:“I have set before you life and death, blessing and curse. Therefore choose life.”
—Deuteronomy 30:19
And what does choosing life look like?It means loving God.
It means listening to His voice.
It means holding fast to Him.
It means trusting Him even when we cannot see the entire path ahead.
Our journey is made one choice at a time.
So today, let us choose God.
Let us surrender our plans, our desires, our fears, and even our uncertainty to Him.
Let us trust His direction rather than our own understanding.
Choose His path.
Choose His truth.
Choose His ways.
Choose life.
And with every step, may our path grow brighter as we walk fully surrendered to Him. |
